PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM DAWN FLANIGAN, SITE COORDINATOR
RID TESTING SUPERSITE NOW IN MICHIGAN!
For Immediate Release: October 30, 2006 SIGN LANGUAGE SERVICES OF MICHIGAN, LLC, was just approved by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. as Michigan’s FIRST and ONLY testing supersite! Sign Language Services of Michigan will begin to offer testing as of January 1, 2007. Sign Language Services of Michigan has been providing Professional Sign Language Interpreters for over 10 years. We have over 50 State and Nationally Certified Interpreters and the most successful Emergency Interpreting Services Division in the state. In addition, we provide training and workshops for Interpreters and Interpreter Students, ASL Community Education classes and communication survival for hearing and hard of hearing people and advocacy and workshops for the Deaf Community. Our Learning Center and Store is open to SLS Team Interpreters and the general community Monday through Thursday 10am to 2pm, Monday and Wednesday evenings 6pm to 8pm and Saturdays 10am to 12pm. We will gladly be open for you at any other time, just give us a call and set up an appointment. Our Learning Center and Store has a videophone for the community to use, an Information Center sponsored by ASL Helping Hands, LLC, where you can find information about many organizations and associations, in and out of Michigan, that may be useful. Additionally, we have a Resource Room that houses hundreds of books, videos, DVD’s, CD’s, articles and periodicals on deafness, Interpreter issues, Sign Language, Deaf Culture, deaf blind and hard of hearing issues. These resources can be used in our center for research free of charge. If you are an SLS Team Member, you may check them out.
Sign Language Services of Michigan’s Learning Center and Store is fully accessible and has an “at home” type of feeling. If your in the area, stop in, grab a snack from our kitchen, plop on a couch or in a comfy chair and relax or read the current issue of one of our newsletters or magazines that we subscribe to.

Please note: We are only a host site for the NIC written and Performance testing. Registration and payment need to be sent to RID using their forms which can be obtained by going to their website. We cannot offer discounts on the cost of testing, nor do we control the setting up of test dates.
